Paper Mate® began in the early 1940s when Patrick J. Frawley acquired a struggling ballpoint pen parts company. His goal was to develop a better ink formula, which led to the launch of the Paper Mate® pen in 1949—revolutionizing the ballpoint pen industry and establishing the brand’s commitment to innovation.
In 1971, Paper Mate® introduced the Write Bros.® line, offering affordable and reliable pens that quickly became everyday essentials. The brand expanded again in 1980 with the addition of Liquid Paper®, enhancing its product line with trusted correction tools. In 2000, Paper Mate® became part of Newell Brands and continues to grow as a global leader in writing instruments
